Custom Walk In Closet System

Closet Décor & More provides walk-in closet design and installation for homes across Broward and southern Palm Beach County. At a free in-home visit, a designer measures your closet and builds a 3D design with you, including layout, finish and hardware. You get a quote for the design you approve, and installation usually follows a few weeks later.

What's included in a custom walk-in closet

Every component is sized to your walls and arranged around what you own. Before your visit, browse every finish and door style, handle and knob and closet accessory we offer.

  • Hanging space, shelves and drawers

Double-hang rods for shirts and pants, long-hang sections for dresses and coats, adjustable shelves for folded clothes, and full-extension drawers. Cabinet doors close on soft-close hinges.

  • Shoes, jewelry and accessories

Shoe shelves and shoe fences, velvet-lined jewelry trays, belt, tie and scarf racks, valet rods, rotating mirrors, hampers and home safes. For a large shoe collection, a Lazy Lee revolving shoe spinner uses space a fixed shelf can't.

  • Islands, hutches and lighting

Where the room allows, a center island adds drawers and a folding surface. Hutches with glass door inserts keep handbags and sweaters visible but out of the dust, and LED lighting brightens shelves and hanging sections.

  • Finishes, styles and hardware

Thirteen finishes, from White, Arctic and Cloud to Drift, Tahoe, Licorice and Black, and nine door and drawer styles, including Shaker, Slim Shaker, Allegra and Milan. Handles and knobs come in finishes such as matte gold, matte nickel, chrome and graphite. Panels are wood with a melamine coating that resists moisture, stains and fading.

Design considerations for a walk-in closet

Your designer works through these points while measuring:

  • Clearance. Hanging clothes take up about two feet of depth, and a walk-in needs at least 24 inches of clear walkway between shelves, rods or an island, according to Hunker's guide to walk-in closet sizes. Our post on walk-in closet dimensions covers layouts by room size.
  • Hanging versus folded. Count what you hang long, what you hang short and what you fold. Double hanging doubles the rod space for shirts and pants, while drawers and shelves suit knits and T-shirts.
  • Corners and heights. In L-shaped and U-shaped closets, corners are planned so they don't become dead space, and rods and shelves are set for the people who use them.
  • Sharing. Two people can each get their own side, drawer stack and hamper. See our ideas for a shared closet.
  • Humidity. In a humid climate, airflow matters as much as moisture-resistant panels. Our mold prevention tips explain why.

How walk-in closet design and installation works

  1. Book a free consultation. Call (954) 900-9983 or request your free design visit.
  2. Design it together in 3D. Your designer measures, shows finish samples and builds the closet in 3D software with you. Change anything you like: sizes, finish, hardware.
  3. Get your quote. We carry economical and luxury product lines and can usually design to a budget if you share it. Promotional financing through Synchrony is available, subject to credit approval.
  4. Installation. Usually a few weeks after you approve the design. Installers remove old components you don't want and wipe the space down when they finish.

Each step is explained on our design and installation process page.

What a custom walk-in closet costs

Because every walk-in is designed for its room, the price comes from your design: size, finish, drawers, accessories and extras such as an island. You get a quote after the 3D design, with no obligation to buy. Our custom closet cost guide explains what moves the number.

Frequently asked questions

How much space do you need for a walk-in closet?

Plan for about two feet of depth wherever clothes hang, plus at least 24 inches of clear walkway, according to Hunker's walk-in closet guide. A wider aisle makes dressing easier, and an island needs that clearance on every side. Your designer measures the room at the free consultation and shows you what fits in the 3D design.

Can you redesign the walk-in closet I already have?

Yes. If your walk-in has a basic rod and shelf or tired wire shelving, the designer plans a new system around the room as it is. On installation day, the installers remove the old components you don't want to keep and wipe the closet down before you move your clothes back in.

How long does walk-in closet installation take?

Installation is usually scheduled a few weeks after you approve the design, depending on your schedule and ours. Time on site depends on the size of the closet, and your designer will tell you what to expect for your project. Our article on how long custom closet installation takes explains the timeline.

How much does a custom walk-in closet cost?

It depends on the closet's size, the finish and door style, your drawers and accessories, and extras like an island or LED lighting. You get an exact quote after your free 3D design, with no obligation. Our closet pricing guide explains the factors, and financing through Synchrony is available.

Do I need to empty my closet before the design visit?

No. Leave everything where it is. The designer wants to see how you use the closet today, including what you hang, fold and stack, so the new layout fits your real wardrobe. You only need to clear the closet before installation day.
