Wellington, FL custom closets and home organization

Wellington's name goes back to C. Oliver Wellington, an accountant who began buying land here in 1951. He called the property the Flying Cow Ranch: "flying" because he was a pilot, and C.O.W. for his initials. In 1953 the state created the Acme Improvement District to drain the land for farming, and the area once grew more than 2,000 acres of strawberries. In 1972 his son Roger sold 7,200 acres to developer Jim Nall, which started the planned community. Under Gould Florida, Palm Beach Polo and Country Club and the Aero Club, an aviation-themed neighborhood with a private airpark, were added. Wellington incorporated as a village on December 31, 1995.

Horses define much of the village. The Winter Equestrian Festival runs from January to April, and the Equestrian Preserve covers about 9,000 acres originally meant to be reserved for equestrian activities.

Wellington's housing is relatively young. Census Bureau estimates date the median home to 1995, with nearly four in five built between 1980 and 2009. About seven in ten homes are detached houses, and another one in eight is a townhouse or other attached home.

If your house has a generous primary closet, a custom walk-in closet can turn it into a dressing room planned around how you dress: long hanging for dresses and coats, double hanging for shirts, drawers in place of a dresser, and an island in the middle if the room leaves space to walk around it. The in-home colors and styles page shows the finishes and door styles, and the designer brings samples to compare in your own light.

Riders have extra things to store. Tall boots need shelves spaced for their height, show coats and shirts need their own hanging section, and helmets, gloves and spurs can share drawers or cubbies. A Lazy Lee rotating unit can hold a large shoe and boot collection in a corner.

The door from the garage or yard sees the most traffic. A mudroom with a bench, hooks and cubbies keeps barn boots and jackets in one spot, and our unique spaces page shows mudrooms and utility closets. A laundry room with cabinets and a folding counter can be planned the same way.

A garage storage system brings wall-mounted cabinets, slatwall, overhead racks and a workbench together, with Swisstrax floor tiles over the slab. Golf bags, bikes, pool supplies and hurricane-season gear each get a place, and the floor under the wall-hung cabinets stays clear.

If you live behind a gate or in a homeowners association, put the designer on your guest list for the consultation, do the same for the installation crew, and read your association's rules on contractor hours and parking ahead of time. If you spend only the winter season in Wellington, book the consultation for a date you'll be in the house, since the designer measures and designs with you in person.

We also serve Royal Palm Beach to the north, West Palm Beach to the northeast and Boynton Beach to the southeast. A free in-home design consultation is the first step for all of them, with the 3D design built together in your home.
