Oakland Park, FL custom closets and home organization
Reach-in closets, pantries and garage storage for Oakland Park homes, many built in the 1950s and 1960s. Start with a free in-home 3D design consultation.

For Oakland Park homes, Closet Décor & More designs custom closets, pantries, garage storage and other organization systems, then installs them. The city is in Broward County, southeast of our Coral Springs office, with Wilton Manors along its southern edge. Every project begins with a free in-home consultation: the designer measures, builds a 3D design with you and then gives you a quote.
From Floranada to Oakland Park
Oakland Park's story starts in the Florida land boom. The area was once called Colohatchee, and on November 25, 1925, it was incorporated as the Town of Floranada, a name blended from Florida and Canada. The 1926 hurricane pushed the town into bankruptcy, and on July 1, 1929, residents reincorporated as the City of Oakland Park, named for its oak trees. Later annexations added areas such as Twin Lakes South and North Andrews Gardens, and the Florida East Coast Railway still runs through downtown beside Dixie Highway. The city recognizes neighborhoods including Lake Emerald, Oakland Forest, Royal Palm Isles and Central Corals, and the 2020 census counted 44,229 residents.
Much of the housing is decades old. Half the city's homes were built before 1972, by Census Bureau estimates, and more than four in ten homes were built before 1970, with the 1950s the busiest single decade. About 42% are detached houses, and about 40% are in buildings with five or more units.
Houses from the 1950s and 1960s tend to have small reach-in closets, sometimes one per bedroom and no walk-in at all. That makes every inch count. A reach-in closet system can replace a single rod with two, add a drawer stack inside the closet and use the wall space above the old shelf. If you're opening up a wall or adding a closet during a remodel, our closet systems can be designed to the new opening.
Hall and linen closets in older houses are often deep and narrow, so towels and sheets get stacked high and lost at the back. Closer shelf spacing, a few drawers and pull-out baskets let you see everything without unloading the front row first.
Pantries, laundry and garages in older homes
In an older house, the kitchen may have a narrow pantry closet or none at all. A kitchen pantry system fits shelves, drawers and pull-out baskets to the space you have, and Lazy Lee rotating shelving turns so cans and jars at the back come around to the front.
Laundry often ends up in a small utility room or in the garage. A laundry room system adds cabinets and a counter above the washer and dryer for detergent, folding and drying racks, so the floor stays clear.
Where there's a garage, wall-mounted cabinets, slatwall and overhead racks from our garage storage systems keep tools and yard equipment off the floor, and tall cabinets hold hurricane-season supplies such as water, batteries and flashlights together so they're easy to find when a storm is forecast. Broward County is in the Florida Building Code's High-Velocity Hurricane Zone and requires impact-rated garage doors, so overhead racks are planned around the door's tracks and the opener.

Oakland Park questions
- Can you get more out of the small closets in a 1950s Oakland Park house?
Yes. Small reach-ins usually gain the most from double-hang rods, drawers built into the closet and shelves that use the height of the wall. At the free consultation the designer measures each closet and builds the layout with you in 3D, so you can see what fits before you get a quote. Hall and linen closets can go into the same design.
- Do you design pantries for small kitchens?
Yes. A pantry system can go into a narrow closet, a corner or a section of wall, with shelves, drawers and baskets sized to that space. The designer measures it during the in-home visit and can design a laundry area or linen closet at the same time, so the whole project comes in one quote.
