Have you wanted to declutter and organize your home, but are not sure where to start? Home organization is overwhelming, but the results are life-changing. A clutter-free house is less stressful and more efficient. You’ll discover space you never knew was available.

If you’re ready to eliminate clutter and maximize storage space, use the following home organization hacks for every room of your house.

All Rooms

1. Purge Unused Items

The best way to open up space in your home is to be stingy with your possessions. Regularly declutter your home and get rid of items your family no longer needs or wants. Donate or discard any items you haven’t used in more than six months. Try doing a different room every month to make it easier.

2. Hook Them

Take advantage of vertical space by installing hooks throughout your home. Hooks are inexpensive, easy to install, and can mount to walls, doors, cabinets, or other vertical surfaces. They also come in a variety of sizes and colors.

3. Fill the Corners

Corners often remain empty, but they can be handy storage areas in every room. They are great spots for desks, coat racks, cupboards, toy chests, benches, and umbrella stands.

4. Underbed Storage

Take advantage of the space beneath your bed for storage. Use flat, plastic bins with lids to hold off-season clothing and bedding. The area under your bed is also a great spot to keep larger items such as luggage, folding chairs, and toys.  Other under bed storage options include installing pull-out drawers or purchasing a bed frame with built-in drawers.

5. Let Your Dresser Do Double Duty

Save space and increase your storage by using a dresser as a nightstand.

6. Increase Hanging Space

In How to Increase Storage Space in Your Master Bedroom Closet, it is recommended that you use double-hung rods to give yourself more space to hang your clothes. Depending on the size of your closet, you may be able to install triple-hung rods.

7. Hang Your Laundry

Instead of taking up valuable space with a hamper, hang a laundry bag from a hook on the back of your bedroom door.

8. Organize Under the Sink

Minimize the clutter around your sink by going below. Use a slide-out organizer for the cabinet under your sink. Make sure to use a mesh-basket so you can see everything.

9. Put Toilet Paper in Baskets

Store extra toilet paper rolls in baskets on the side of the sink or hang the baskets from the wall. Not only do you avoid running out of toilet paper, but you also spruce up your bathroom.

10. Add Storage in Your Shower

If you need more space for shampoo, soap, and other shower supplies, install another shower rod. Add some hooks to give you easy access to the items.

11. Hang More Towel Racks

If you have too many towels and not enough space, install towel bars on the back of your bathroom door.

12. Install a Pegboard

Keep your pots and pans close. Install a pegboard as your backsplash and hang pots and pans on hooks.

13. Use a Rolling Cart for Extra Space

If you have limited cabinet space, a rolling cart is an excellent solution for extra storage. You can move it where you need it and hide it when not in use. You can use it for a specific purpose, such as to store baking supplies.  For extra food preparation space, add a top made of butcher block, stainless steel, or laminate.

14. Magnetize Your Knives

Keep your knives close by for easy access by hanging them from a magnetized wood strip affixed to the backsplash. Just make sure that the sharp portions of the knives are covered, so as to prevent potential injuries.

15. Utilize Your Refrigerator for Non-Food Storage

Use the side and top of your refrigerator for extra storage space. Mount a paper towel rack on the side of the refrigerator.  Put small baskets or bins on the top of the fridge for items you don’t need all the time.

16. Employ Hidden Storage

Add to your room’s decor while also adding storage space. Buy furniture such as ottomans, trunks, benches, or coffee tables with hidden storage. This extra space can be used for toys, blankets, or anything else you don’t need to keep out in the open.

17. Save Space with Nesting Tables

Instead of buying several small tables, purchase a set of nesting tables. Place a lamp on the larger table and take out the smaller tables as needed.

18. Box the Remotes

Keep track of your remote controls by putting them in decorative boxes you can place on a coffee table or side table.

19. Create a Kids Play Zone

Don’t let toys take over your living room. Find an unused corner and transform it into a play area for your kids. You can add a small bookcase, small table, or a rolling cart to hold toys.

20. Fold Your Desk

If you don’t have room for a separate home office, a fold-down desk is a great solution. The desk folds out from the wall when you need it.

21. Create Garage Zones

In 10 Ideas & Accessories to Reorganize Any Size Custom Garage, Memphis Garage & Closets suggests creating zones to group similar items together. You might develop zones for automotive items, recycling bins, gardening tools, and sports equipment.

22. Label Boxes and Bins

When placing storage bins or boxes in your garage for storage, label them so you know what’s inside. It will make it much easier when you need to find specific items.
